Some friends are closer than some family. Some friends are more than some family. The saying "Blood is thicker than water" is supposed to show that family is always more important than friends, but in modern life we often live at a great distance from family and good friends stand in time and again for traditionally familial roles. There is nothing wrong with feeling closer to a tried and true friend than to a back-stabbing jealous relative. Having a family member as a close friend is the best of both worlds.

Yes I do. But I know my family will always be there no matter what. Me and my sister are definately not friends or anything close at all anymore. It breaks my heart that she has to be such a ***** to me but I dont have to deal with it if I dont speak to her. I have some true die hard friends out there that are like family to me. So in conclusion, my friends are closer to me than my family is. Sad, but true

Lately I do. My family, husband and I went through a troubling time when my husband shared his personal feelings with my Dad (concerning things that was going on within my family) and my Dad went back and told them but told it incorrectly. This caused a big fall out and my husband and I was ousted by them until recently but now things will never be the same.
I have one close friend who I can confide in and now I only tell her or my husband the things that I would have only told my family. It's hard to get adjusted to, but family hurt is the worst kind of hurt because they don't always show compassion or understanding to the things you are going through and speak to what they think is "your best interest."

Nope, family is definitely more important to me. I mean, I still care deeply about the friends that I have, and I would do anything for them, but in a pinch when it comes down to it, as the old saying goes "blood is thicker than water." I really believe that no matter what my family would be there for me before my friends. I guess that is just in my experiences though.

No, I do not. I was an Air Force Brat as a kid and moved around a lot. I learned to lean on my family between friends and places.....so....I have life long friends but most of them lose touch after a while. Your family is always there for you not matter what....Some families aren't like that but mine is super close.

I consider good friends to be a part of my family.

I will not go into long explanations of how my family has wronged and abandoned myself and my children. But I will say Friends Are Our Chosen Family. I saw that on a pillow at my girlfriends house as I sat and ate Easter dinner, along with her family, her in laws, and all the others we have grown to love as family over the years. Dead heads, bikers, loners, and grandmas But we all love to be together.

Definitly in some ways! My best friend Robyn and I have been friends for over 13 years.... There are TONS of things that ONLY she knows & my family would completely disown me for! So... In some ways... She is closer to me than almost anyone! hope this helps. Good Question.

It is possible. Your family should always have precedence, but sometimes it's possible for friends to come up to that level of love. Love is what makes a family. Not always love like that between a couple, but love that you would be willing to do most anything for. Keep things right, but always in love.
