Go to your local auto parts store or the automotive section of your local Wal-Mart and ask them for a can of Bug/Tar/Sap Remover. Read the directions before you buy -- most of them are safe to use on car paint, but some aren't.

It is called "Disolve-It" or Disolv-It. It will not harm the paint on the hood. It is very oily so it is non-abrasive. It will work great. It is not hard to find where I live, but if you have trouble, try Simple Green first and if that doesn't work look for the other. Good luck.

I would suggest using a vineger solution or some of that tar and bug remover. I know that is what I have done in the past. Make sure not to let it sit too long to advoid damage to you paint.

Use some WD-40 with a soft cloth. It will break it down very quickly. Then wash it off with soap & water.
