I dont mean a clutch hitter like David Ortiz, im talking about a pure hitter, guys like Tony Gwynn, Rod Carew, etc....we all have different opinions at work so I wanna see what other people think.

I agree with everyone so far. I'm really torn between Pujols, Jeter, Ichiro and Wright.

Yeah, I forgot about Mauer too. There sure is a hell of a lot of young talent in the league right now.

Tough question, because I never know exactly what is meant by a "pure hitter." Does that mean you don't take into account their ability to take a walk, to hit for power, or anything else while at the plate?
Either way, I think it has to be Pujols. I know he's known as a high-OBP, bigtime power guy, but check out his career average - coming into this season, he was second among active players, and would probably be first if not for the fact that Todd Helton gets to play half his games in Colorado.
Pujols has a great eye, a great swing, and awesome power, which I think is more than anyone could ever ask for in a hitter. I don't see how anyone else could be the "right" answer to this question.

Id say David Ortiz, this guy can hit it far and in cluch situations like u said. A pure hitter is one that can get the job done anytime he needs to. (Leading the Majors in RBI and HR) REMEMBER though, this guy would be hitting for Average (and a very high one) if he wasnt hitting into the shift everytime he goes to bat. So David Ortiz's is a little deflated. So there is no doubt in my mind that that David Ortiz is the Best Pure Hitter in the Game.

You have to say Pujols for now. But I think David Wright of the Mets has a chance to be that kind of hitter before all is said and done.

I would have to vote for Ichiro.
The others are good but he keeps getting over 200 hits a year and will do it again.
Power wise Pujilo and A Rod. The others are good but only time will tell.

George Brett or that great Yankee Wade Boggs. Carew was very good too. Clemente was probably the best 'non-strike' hitter. Joe "D" was pretty good. Ty Cobb damn good.
