School will starting soon and I need some input. I'm debating if, I should become a Web Designer or be involved in Television Production (like camera operation). Thanks 4 your input.

I work in an advertising agency that has both web designers and television production people.

Web designers are an in-demand field right now, and should be for a while. College is a great time to learn the softward that you will need, and make sure to put together a web portfolio while you are in school of your different web projects. An average web designer will make around $35-50,000/year. Recently, like several other jobs in America, larger advertising firms have been getting rid of their designers and sending work overseas to India.

Television production will always have a place in America. If you go this route, I would suggest getting practice behind the camera and in a editing suite. Seek out the college tv station and start working there while at school.

Here's what I would do, I would major in television production and do a minor in web design. The two fields have quite a bit of crossover, and will make you much more hireable once you finish school.

I have worked in network television for 12 years in production doing thing like camera, editing, master control and many other jobs. It is a good job BUT be aware that your lifestyle may take a hit because the predominant hours are nights and many weekends are involved. If you want to be a studio camera operator there is not much money involved - try to learn skills as a eng or hand held camera person. When you finally look for jobs most local affiliates don't hire many full time employees and pay is low. Look at cable or broadcast networks such as ESPN, Discovery, Golf Channel, ABC, NBC etc. Good luck whatever you decide.

TV production is much more stable but has a shrinking audience and shrinking budgets. Web production has not settled down yet but is growing rapidly.
The good news that both web design and tv production will merge as one job over the next few years. Stick to TV and you'll end up on the web anyway.

Well web design involves more creativity... and television work revolves more around Advertisement and publication etc etc...

I would personally choose web design (but nowadays EVERYONE is doing it, so perhaps TV production would be a better option)

Both sound like really good jobs, it just depends on what you are better at doing. I would pick Web designer.

I think that Televison Production is much better. You can always designer a website later.

which do you think you'd be better at? sitting all day with your nose next to the monitor, working your own hours, and creating then having other people approve it, or standing up all day, under pressure for a while, and pleasing other people?

If you can do either, and still are undecided, go with the one that gives you the best money.

It depends on what you like to do better. This is basically all your call. You should look into both very closely to see the pros and cons. That should help you decide. Good luck
