My manager is always in meetings or out of the office, and I am the one speaking with her clients and answering their questions or sending them contracts. Why am I not a manager?

Because before she was a manager, she was an assistant and doing the exact same things you are now. You earn more as you move up so when she's gone or another manager position becomes available, you will now be the expert at how to train your assistant so that you can learn how to be whatever is higher than Manager.

The difference between a manager and an assistant is that you do much of the manager's work for them but don't get paid nearly as much! Plus, if you're a manager you can take credit for your assistant's ideas. I had a manager like that once. I was very patient and eventually she was laid off and I got her job and a big raise!

Good luck!

a manager is one who manage a business and delegate work to his workers or assistant. the assistant is one who take order from a manager and obey and do all the work. the manager order and control his assistant and make sure that they obey and do all the work. if the assistant is not able to do the work given than the manager will fire the assistant and hire a new assistant who can do all the work, very simple,as the title imply. the manager just manager and the assistant just assist and do the work, because the assistant is a worker so worker just do all the work.

An assistant manager would be just like another manager. The assistant to the manager would have to get their coffee, do the phone calls to everyone, and practically be their slave. [:

The manager also has to be able to meet with the higher ups and make sure what comes down from them get passed out to their assistants and carried out ..there is no reason you couldn't be management as long as you also have a degree supporting your commitment to accomplish these tasks given out from them..

Assistants get paid less! So if I were you, I'd work harder and smarter so I can move up the ladder.
