Agree that being rude is uncalled for; BUT spelling errors are a sign of laziness. Right now, as I fill out this answer, there is a perfectly good spell check above the box. How much effort does it take? What it really signifies is that people never learned to spell correctly in the first place, and I blame that on the liberal education system which isn't concerned about education anymore.

Misspellings do irritate me greatly - and yes, I do make many of my own and get upset with myself when I do. I think the main reason(s) why it irritates people is so many I've seen, there are just so many misspellings that you can't even make sense of the question being asked. And some of the questions being asked, coupled with horrible misspellings...well in a way I guess you could it speaks for the person. Hell, yesterday, I saw a chick say how irratated (that was how she spelled it) she was at all the misspellings and wondering why people couldn't use spellcheck. And as far as those from other countries...well, I've dealt with my share of Indians and Middle Easterns and maybe 1% of that has been pleasant (outside of the physicians I work with that is), but when you find them on the internet (actually, it's vice versa, because in no way do I go seeking them out) you will surely be inundadated with messages that make no sense whatsoever. Actually, there would be nearly as many Indians posting on here if they didn't have such a female shortage of their own doing over there.

And after reading what Kris B wrote, totally agree with that as well!

I think because with all of the learning disabilities and language barriers aside, MOST of the people who cannot spell really can but they are too lazy to think for more than two seconds and that is disrespectful to the reader. Using proper English is considerate. I never spell words incorrectly - you can check if you want to. I am a second generation American and it was VERY important to our family that we all spoke, read, and wrote well. I think it's sickening that other families don't stress the importance of it. Language is a basic form of communication and if you aren't using your language well, you only communicate how lazy you really are.

ok the block where you just typed in your question .look at the top right side of it. it says plainly ( check spelling ). the problem is you do not use it . if everyone used it. there would be no trouble trying to understand the question. but most people are in such a hurry or they do not care and just do not use it. use the spell checker thats what it is for.

I hear you. When I first started out here, I used to get really snarky with people who used bad grammar and couldn't spell.

Then I saw other people taking the questioner seriously, and I felt bad. So I stopped doing it.

Oh sure, I still pull out the grammar card if the person is a complete ***, but I'm more tolerant now.
