Laugh Out Loud or Laughing Out Loud. While typing in an instant messenger, if someone says something funny you can say "haha", "hehe", or "lol", it's all the same. There are variations on this, like "lmao" (Laughing My @$$ Off), or "roflmao" (Rolling On Floor Laughing My @$$ Off), etc.

LOL stands for "Laughing Out Loud" or "Lots of Love". The second usage is usually only for old people... ;)
