no they would not however the coldness of raw meat act like ice
a bag of frozen peas is better and cheaper, but to get rid of the discolouration you need an astringent like witch hazel or good old vinegar , the white one works the best. regards LF

RE:
Is putting steak on a black eye an old wives tale or does it really work and if so, how?
Would a string of sausages wrapped around a broken arm or leg possess the same healing properties?

Basically i think it is an old wife's tale but they could have a point you know.
The only reason for this is to have a cold compressor to the area, as this will cause less bruising. The blood vessels around the eye is very delicate and when you keep something cold to the eyes then this will just prevent the bruising not to be so bad. So in actual fact you can keep anything that is cold like a bag of frozen peas or just an ice pack. I would not like to use meat myself for the healing purposes but if there is nothing else in the freezer that is cold, go ahead and use it.
hope you find this help full

Not an old wives' tale... it does works particularly when the steak has just came out of the pan.... Seriously... it is not the steak but its low temperature.

I wouldn't put raw meat on your eye. Your risk infection as your skin is already bruised and torn. Maybe they didn't have ice so they used meat? any ice pack/frozen peas etc wrapped in a towel is just as good. anything cold is used to reduce the swelling.

steak was used back in the days before we had ice packs basically and i wouldn't recomend strait out of the fire unless u want 3rd degree burns!! Cold compress of any kind reduses swelling so anything out of fridge/freezer will do xx

I'm not sure about the meat on injuries, I personally won't waste it.
A cold gel pack makes more sense.
