Since Contemporary/Modern is so diverse of a dance form I can't give you too specifics. What ever class you are taking applies most (the style the teacher uses, she should know what to tell you from there!) But if you are just waiting on your hands, I would sugest anything the increases flexibility, core strenghting excersises, leg extentions, arm coordination, and the most important (that I found) improvisaion. Since you might not know much about the style of dance you might not understand what I am talking about but, I find that if I just make up a dance in the morning listening to a new song (or even a song I have done this to before) and make up a dance, repeat it, change it and refine it, I can come up with bigger and better things quicker each time, the key is to be original no matter how manytimes you do this to a song.
Hope it helps! I am interested in your progress (I love lyrical which is similar to contemporary) so feel free to email me with questions or anything!

"Contemporary" dance can be so many different forms in this day and age. For any kind of dance, you are going to want to be flexible/limber. I think yoga is great. I'm not too fond of Pilates. Why don't you ask your teacher?
