No, because you don't want government controlled economics (welfare, bigger taxes), but you want more civil liberties. You are by definition a libertarian. You want both maximum economic and social freedom.

All governments work on paper. Unfortunately, when labeling people, they assume they are content with the earthly flaws of the governmental system rather than a belief that it would be a good form without those flaws. You're a realist. You realize that socialism would be a great system if it worked out like it did, but you also realize that expecting people to not abuse the system is stupid. There's nothing wrong with having your own belief of what you think things should be, as you seen more than intelligent enough to realize that human beings muck up every system of government they make, no matter how good it sounds on paper. It's just our nature to have people who suck!

I don't think that you are actually a socialist, just young and somewhat idealistic.
There is a difference between being compassionate and realizing a need for a viable system to help those in need and the support of a system in which government assumes the role of parent and sees to all of your needs from cradle to grave.
The primary reason that socialism doesn't work on a large scale is that ultimately it encourages people to conclude that the amount of effort they put forth has little bearing on their rewards.
The problem with social safety net systems is one of telling the difference between those who really need help and those who just want a free ride. That is why I believe in a self regulating system that offers work to those who are willing to make their way, basic help for those with some sort of real barrier to work, and very little for those unwilling to make any sort of effort at all.
I believe it was Winston Churchill that said something like:
If you are not a liberal at 20, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at 40, you have no brain...

Assuming you are from the US, you seem to have a very skewed and negative view of our society. You can be whatever you wish, but that is not how I see it.
My suggestion to you would be think of working smarter, not just harder. Also, drop the negative views. Our system isn't perfect, but I'd be surprised if you find anything much better anywhere in the world. You take what you get and make the best out of it. You could also try to change it in our democratic system - which is not possible in more than half of the world we live in.

Yes you are a socialist. I agree with you though, i dislike freeloaders. I am a student at university but have plans to get a job, i have friends who have already graduated but arent even looking for work and it really annoys me. If people work they should be rewarded, although i understand some people aren't able bodied and therefore should be helped. I want to see that everyone has equality and that everyone pulls their on weight. For that i am a socialist, but i do hate people who misuse the system.

If you like being rewarded for hard work, you are not a socialist. There are working poor and there are lazy poor. The working poor should not be fed, but educated thru programs in their city or state. Feeding people without enabling them to improve is a bottomless pit. And generations of people prove that theory.

For someone who knows what it is like to be labeled, you sure do a lot of name-calling. You're not a socialist. You're a snob.
