Don't know, but wish it didn't happen.

I've just lost my easy 28 day cycle to someone that has a 23 day one!

Wish mine was the dominant cycle in the office!

My basic theory is that it is to do with the phases of the moon to produce a distinct "mating season" each month where all the women in a tribe were fertile and as the duration of a body cycle is about a lunar month the phase of the moon would be the signal for the matings to occur.

I guess it was easier, back in the apes times, to protect the females all at once (from other tribe males), rather than having to protect some females at any time...

not just with other females if you were to check with the keepers at the zoo they synchronise with the apes as well. It's a biological response from our early ancestors But Biologists ar still to come up with a good reason for this!

It is so just in case they are all living under the same roof with ONE male... and the ONE male can then have the time of his life without long abstinence or frequentm interruptions. Something like that !

genetics,it would be no good to the tribe if women ovulated at different times all at the same time, all pregnant at the same time its the law of averages the more offsprings you produce at the same time the better the chance of survival ,its the same reason fish swim in a shoal. plus the synchronization is your body clock atuning itself to the tribes you dont want to be left out of your share of nookie do you.

I believe it's to do with the drop in progesterone levels just before a period.
