No, no, no. The Newton is a unit of force. It is the amount of force necessary to accelerate 1 kg of mass at 1 m/s²

As long as everybody is in the same inertial reference frame (i.e. -9.8 m/s²) then mass and weight are pretty much interchangeable.

But, if you were in orbit, you wouldn't ask, "How much do I weigh." So the problem here isn't with the answer, it's with the question. You shouldn't ask how much someone weighs, you should ask what their mass is.

1.b. The force of gravity between two objects decreases as the square of the distance between them. In other words, if you double the distance, the force is reduced by a factor of four (22); if you triple the distance, you reduce the force by a factor of nine (32). 2.d. Weight is a force - something that happens to an object. 3. d. Weight is the gravitational force acting on a body mass.. Transforrming Newton's Seccond Law regarding the weight as a force due to gravity gives w = m g (2) where w = weight (N) m = mass (kg) g = acceleration of gravity (m/s2) 4.d sounds reasonable i took physics a couple years ago....but this is wat i remember..... ^_^

Its a matter of convention. We have been doing that ever since the weighing machine was invented I guess. People really don't change that much even over long periods of time.

who's nerdy enough to answer in newton? besides, everybody answers in kilograms so who wants to take the nerdy way and say "I weigh 10000 newton"
