The conversion of Saul of Tarsus. He went on to found a new religion, whereas the Nazoreans of Jerusalem were a faction within Judaism. The new religion claimed to be consistent with Judaism, was not, became a primarily Gentile cult that was anti-Semitic, and almost completely wiped out Classical Civilization, setting us back a thousand years. It still is a nuisance today.

Anything you change could and probably would bring about something even worse. There must always be a balance in time and nature. So I would change nothing. The evils we have now are of our own making, and it us up to us to change things.
