You are highly unlikely (but it's not totally impossible) to get pregnant when on your period because your body is shedding the nice cosy nest it made for the egg it ovulated a week or so prior to your period.
The great thing about having sex whilst on your period is that a good orgasm helps to relieve period pains.
It's not gross or unsanitary, it's natural.
But it won't stop you picking up an STD so if that could be an issue you should use protection.

No.!!
The term menstrual cycle refers to the recurring, monthly physiologic changes in a female’s body that are controlled by her reproductive hormones. The term “menstrual period” (aka “menses”, “menstruation”, or “period”) refers to the 2-5 days of vaginal bleeding at the beginning of each menstrual cycle. This bleeding is a result of shedding the endometrial lining in a woman who is not pregnant; pregnant women do not have periods, although they may experience a normal bloody discharge for a few days near the 6th week of pregnancy called “implantation bleeding”. Normal menstrual cycles typically occur in non-pregnant females on a monthly basis between puberty or menarche (when they begin) and menopause (when they end). While the textbook menstrual cycle is 28 days, the range of normal menstrual cycles is from 22--35 days. Periods that come every 21 days or fewer are called polymenorrhea; cycles that repeat more than every 35 days are called oligomenorrhea. The term amenorrhea refers to periods that come more than 180 days apart or that are absent. The average age of menarche in the United States is 12.5, but may occur anytime between ages 8 to 16. The average age of menopause is 51, but usually occurs between ages 45 and 55. The average age of premature menopause or premature ovarian failure (menopause before the age of 40 for any reason) is 27.

no.
there is no way you can get pregnant at this time.
your body is shedding the lining in your womb where an egg would embed. There is no egg produced at this time and no place for the egg to go but out.
also any sperm in there will come out with your menstration, if any does stay in there it will be long dead by the time new lining forms and another egg is produced.
Sex during this time can be very messy but very enjoyable as sensations can be hightened. There is no more health risk having sex at this time than having sex any way without protection, only bonus is that it is physiologicaly impossible to get pregnant.

you can conceive at any time of the month. Sperm lives in the body between 5-7 days.
Why do people want to have sex on the period, surely those 7 days should be a rest period....literally!

Absolutely.
The chances are not as great as a week after your period, or a day before your period, but it can still happen.

Small chance but it's gross and unsanitary. Is he going to explode if he has to wait a couple days. Tell his azz to give your body it's space. That time of the month is for your vagina's maintenance, not to be poked by one eyed willie.
