i live in Dubai and I'm a local also, we need the skyscrapers for the people from other countries who work here, we do not live in them we rather living in villas.. do you know that the ratio for locals vs. non-local is 10 to 1... that for every 10 foreigner there is only 1 local

They have money to spend and it is a place of international business. The 1 million is counting the Dubai population but not those from other countries working there.

Dubai is full of workers from other countries, you do not see a lot of locals there, most of the people there are Indians, Arabs and foreigners. it is like New york but the Arabic style

Beause they can.
They have most of the profits from oil & gas sold in the US & around the world. They don't agree with the West & our way of life, but they emulate it as often as they can.
The indoor ski resort there is a very good indication of way too much money.
