im on the word map 4 first time ive been to kalm and the chocobo farm how do u cross the ocean???

You can't cross the ocean yet--you'll have to cross the Marsh to the Southwest of the Chocobo Farm. However, if you do try to cross on foot, you'll be ambushed by the Midgar Zolom, which is probably too strong for you to defeat just yet. Instead, if you catch a Chocobo, you can cross much faster and it will be much easier to avoid the Zolom. Here's how:

At the Chocobo Farm, you can buy the materia "Chocobo Lure", which when equipped to a character in your party, will make it easier to encounter a Chocobo in the wild. Make sure you also buy some Greens from Chocobo Bill in addition to the Lure.

Return to the Map and run around the bird tracks outside. You'll still enter random battles, but with the Chocobo Lure equipped eventually you'll come across a Chocobo. Have a party member use the Item command and throw a Green at the Chocobo--this will prevent the Chocobo from running away. Quickly defeat the other opponents on screen (using Greens to keep the Chocobo present) to capture the Chocobo. Be mindful, if you attack the Chocobo, it will retaliate and flee.

Once the battle is over, you'll appear on map riding the Chocobo. Cross the Marsh--but avoid the Zolom, it can still attack you if you run into it--and enter the cave on the other side.

But there's more! If you have the Enemy Skill materia, there are two moves you can learn while you're here. If you have the move L4 Suicide (which you can learn from those little Squirrel enemies) and use the move on a Chocobo that has a level that is a factor of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, etc) the Chocobo will use a move against you that is an Enemy Skill. To check the Chocobo's level just equip Sense materia and use the Sense command. Also, the Midgar Zolom will also hit you with an Enemy Skill move called Beta. This is a powerful Fire attack it uses just before it dies--if you fight it and it hits you with this, it's about to go. Make sure you have armor or a materia combination that allows a character to absorb or resist Fire, plus a high level, and go for it! Don't worry, the Midgar Zolom will always reappear, no matter how many times you fight it or beat it.

you can't cross the ocean yet.. if you just got to the chocobo farm you need to cross the little lake with the water monster in it first.... you can run across the lake or you can get a chocobo to cross it... if you get the chocobo to cross it then you need to catch a chocobo in front of the farm on the tracks...you need to get a greens and give it to the chocobo after you find it and you need to kill the monsters in order to catch it...your along way before you cross the ocean you need to do the above to get started.

once you get so far into the game, it will take you there automatically....then you will get a submarine...then when you get a certain character you get a plane.... you best bet is to go online and find a walkthrough..without it, for a while you will be lost
