Time is the best medicine for a bruise, but to prevent them, make sure you're getting enough vitamins. Eat fruit, that's full of vitamins, right?
If it's been there for a long time you might have done something to the vein maybe? I know i have somthing like that, a blue spot on my leg.
If it REALLY bothers you, cover it up! I suggest pants, capris, longer skirts, leggings wtih shorter skirts...the possibilities are endless!
I think the best way to get rid of a problem is to fix it as much as you possibly can, and then let it go! If it's a scar type thing, it comes with story, right? So strut your stuff!!!

a bruise is nothing more than blood pooling under the skin due to a broken capillaries and the more painful deep ones are broken blood vessels. You can break it up with a light massage now if it is a deep bruise wait until it starts to turn colors. That is the stage where other cells come and "eat" the dead blood cells. If you have a huge deep bruise DO NOT massage because it can cause the clot to break away and you don't want to take a chance of that. You should know if it is a serious bruise considering it's you body.

Unfortunately there is no way to get rid of a bruise. It will eventually disappear on it's own. Be careful next time!

bruises are caused by bloodflow outside of the capilaries
taking a hot bath will make it worse
Ice the area well and the bruise will not get as much blood and will go away quicker

Use Arnica. It's a homeopathic remedy that's amazing for bruises where the skin is not broken. You can even use if on animal - it's that safe.

Time will help, but usually running hot water around the air will help circulate the blood and repair the damaged capillaries.
Take a hot bath!

You could cover it with self-tanning lotion.
But the previous answerer is correct - only time will heal it.
