That's an old wives tale.......there will be no baby before it's time! Find a good book and relax.....it's difficult waiting - but babies come when they're darn good and ready!

the only things I know of that speed up labour are:
be fit and strong especially your abdomenal and pelvic floor muscles...
Exercise throughout the pregnancy
Once you go into labour:
do not do drastic things like taking castor oil or riding along a bumpy road.. repeat for emphasis: You do NOT want bub to be opening his/her bowels before birth... So do NOT take castor oil...
Do:
Keep walking around...walking is the only healthy way to speed up labour... walk through the early contractions
Do not take to you bed... until and unless the medical staff need you to do so.. Laing down puts more pressure on your spine and also means gravity is working against you and bub.. squatting with your back supported is the optimum position for giving birth..
remain calm... talk to bub.. and notice what is happening to your body.
Take warm showers, share these with bub's dad, this eases the contraction pains and back pains and helps dad be involved in the birthing process while allowing the two of you to be intimately close and supportive of each other..

Castor oil causes a bad case of the runs and can do more harm than good for you and that aby.
Also there is no NEED to rush labor...it will happen on it's own.

Do not use castor oil , it could hurt you and your baby. There is an herbal remady called evening primrose oil, you need to pop a hole in the pill and put the oil inside near your cervix , be very careful not to push to hard. Walking and sex help as well. The semen helps as a natural cervix softener.

Sex really does help!! It may be a few very uncomfortable minutes, but the semen helps to soften your cervix. It really does work!!
