The most obvious one is the difference in the displacement. Ironically the 250r will get you better performance than the gs500f even though it's smaller. It redlines at 13,000 rpm, it's liquid cooled vs air cooled, accelerates quicker and it handles better. The only advantage on the Suzuki is the little bit higher top speed, that is if you ever want to ride over 100 mph which I don't recommend. The Ninja is a better built machine overall. Kawasaki hasn't changed this model since '88 and there is a reason for it. I was debating between this two bikes, and I bought the Ninja. I absolutely love it.

some obvious things would be:
250 cc difference in the engine sizes
Different manufacturers, ergo different designs.
Kind of like comparing an apple to an orange.
