oh! same with me! I have the guy friend but he wants to go out with me. I just told him that i really like him but i would love to stay friends........ he's not boyfriend material!

be direct and just say it. Then quickly move onto other things to keep the conversation going. Its better to lay it out there then to keep a friend hanging on false hope. Real friends tell you the truth

Just let him no that you don't want to loose him as a friend, and don't want to have to deal with the consequences if going out with him turns bad, as you cherish his friendship too much.
