I would go for the gentle giant Elephant. Though with its strength it can do any damage to human settlements, it never disturbs them living near the forests. Very few animals better this record.
Yet, an elephant is considered very brilliant and talented. It can pick up a needle with its huge trunk. There are more and more reasons to justify the smartness

Havent I seen this somewhere before? Oh well - Dolphins are the smartest cause they have super good hearing and sight. I learned this in 5th grade. Somethings you never forget!!!!

Dolphins. (It's a fact that Dolphins are the second smartest mammal in the world.... humans being the first) scientists proved this a while back.

monkeys are incredibly intelligent...i mean there have been monkeys that go to outer space (thats amazing)
Dolphins and Elephants are also very wise animals

at the moment, it has not being confirmed scientifically! But the you can consider the ape and dolphine as they are the closest to human.
