I have recently placed my details on sites to look for nanny positions but I think something has happened and perhaps someone has passed on my details to another site, as I have been receiving very strange phone calls and emails. I am a little concerned and dont no how to find out what site I am on. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get my details off? And to find were my details are posted?

You could try to find the sites again by searching for them in the same way that you did in the first place.

Another alternative is to go back through your internet browsing history - click the History icon on the toolbar. By default your computer will keep a record of the sites you have visited over the last 3 weeks. If you've recently deleted your history files or have software installed that removes traces of web-browsing then this won't work.

A more long winded way would be to trawl through your Temporary Internet Files, this will show everything that's been browsed on the internet since the time the TIF's were last deleted. To access the TIF's open Windows Explorer, click on the hard drive (usually Local Disk (C:)), click Docuiments and Settings, click your Username, click Local Settings and click on Temporary Internet Files. These can be listed in date order (click the column heading) so if you know roughly when you accessed the sites you can narrow down your search.

Another alternative is to use search engines to find webpages that contain your personal details - do a search for your e-mail address, phone numbrs etc. Bear in mind that there is a delay of up to several weeks between a webpage being created or modified and it being indexed by the search engines.

Useful tip for the future - never give out personal details on a public website. There are unfortunately a lot of people and organisations that will mis-use such information usually for the purposes of spamming you. If you need to submit personal details such as your address or phone number then do so only on a secure site (the address will start with https), by submitting online forms or in an e-mail direct to the intended recipient.

There are things called e-mail harvesters that sweep the internet searching for e-mail addresses, these are then collected and used by spam-gangs for sending junk e-mails. One sure way to get spam e-mail is to include your e-mail address in places such as eBay, MySpace, Answers, public forums etc, these are favourite places for the e-mail harvesters to look.

If you have to enter an e-mail address then do it an a human readable form but not a machine readable form - for example, a machine can read 'info@x.com' because it's in standard e-mail address format but if it's written as 'info at x dot com' then a machine can't read it but a human will know what it means.

Once you do come across sites that include your personal details you can e-mail the webmaster and state that you want your personal details removing from the site.

read through the privacy policy of the sites you have used, they like to make a good point of it if they do not pass on your details so it will be easy to find out if the site is to blame.

if you posted your email, phone or other personal details on a publicly accessible webpage then anybody could be using it. there are automated programs spammers use that check through thousands of pages an hour and they record every single email address they find, the list of addresses obtained are then sold on to other people.

I'm afraid some jobsearch sites are fake. They usually exist to steal your i.d. You should only ever use a reputable agency that exists on the street, not one you find only on the web.
Its easier to change your e-mail address and home phone number.

chances are your email have been distributed to other spam loaded/add loaded website which is why you are gettting these emails, however the best thing to do is add them to the bulk list that way you can delete them in one shot or unsubscribe them as they come.
I am not sure if there is any other way you can find out since there are alot of them
