Buy a pen and an autograph book and go and ask Bush for his autograph.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to authenticate weather or not the pen was actually "used" by a President, however often time Ex-Presidents (Bush, Clinton, Carter) will go on speaking engagements that are open to the public. Buy a good pen, grab a friend with a camera and go to the event early so that you can get a seat close to the stage. Most time the Pres. will walk down into the crowd to shake hands, ask for an autograph and have freind take pic as he is signing. Voila! A picture of the Pres. using the pen with an authenticated autograph as well! Good luck!

Well, I have a pen used by Ronald Reagan I received from him back in 1987 when I worked in Washington,DC (for a US company and not the government). And yes, I had a very good job and an excellent position in the company. But I was not a CEO, EVP, major campaign contributor or party fund raiser...just a business work that at times did some classified work for the government

Through a mutual friend of the President and me I (and my wife and son) met him and had photos taken together in the Oval Office. He gave me the pen with which he signed the photographs; all 5 photos plus the letter he signed when we exchanged Christmas gifts.....yes, I'm not joking.
He gave me and my family 2 White House (WH) jackets, a 3 piece set of heavy duty nylon carry on WH luggage, an sterling silver candy dish engraved with the image of the White House and the words "The Reagan White House Years" and the dates. He also gave my young son a WH key change. And every gift had the seal of the President of The United States on it. Except for the pen; it had a facsimile of his signatue on it. And yes, it was an very inexpense (cheap!?) ball point pen that was usually given out as a trinket to people on special WH tours but who may or may not meet the President. And these typically were never use by the President.

By the way, if you're curious; my family gave the President a small (11" tall) bronze statue of a "49'er California gold paner. My friend suugest I might want to pick out a gift that the President could put in his private home on his ranch in Sana Yenez, CA. We latter received a very nice thank you letter from him...with his real signatue and not one generated by an auto-pen.

And sorry, I plan on keeping the pen and the other gifts.

My suggestion? Contact (visit is best) you US Senator and/or your district Cohgressman and request their assistance. And since President Bush is a Republican....if your Senator or Congressman is a Republican...try them first.

Good Luck!

The ones they sell on eBay and in autograph shops, etc. are pens allegedly used by the President to sign a bill into law. These are actually cheapo ball-points, and the President will use a dozen or more to sign a single bill, and then give them to those attending.

Of course he then, if he's George W. Bush, proceeds to issue a "signing statement" (but not till everybody has gone home) in which he says that the law is no good and he has no obligation or intention of obeying or implementing it. So that's why the people he gave the pens to typically throw them out or sell them on eBay.

I've just checked eBay and while there are "presidential pens" for sale, I think those were gifts to people who made $10 contributions to the campaign, not bill-signing pens. It would seem that all of George W. Bush's bill-signing pens were thrown away.

When an American President signs a bill, usually several pens are used which go to various people associated with the bill.

The best bet for finding such a pen would probably be e-bay.

Go to a presidential appearance, bring your own pen and ask for an autograph. After he uses your pen to sign the autograph, you suddenly have a pen that's been used by an American President.
