i'm not sure what D&C stands fro.. but it is a medical procedure that is done when there is a miscarriage or after the birth of a baby. the doctor basically scrapes clean the inside of the uterus to avoid infection from unneccesary muscu or in the case of a miscarriage to be rid of the dead fetus and the mucus surrounding it.

D & C stands for Dilatation and Curettage.
It is a gynaecological procedure used to curette (ie scrape) the lining of the womb.
It is indicated:
- in heavy menstrual bleeding that is causing problems (like anaemia)
- as an abortion procedure
- for removal of retained products of conception
- some other situations - see the links below
These days the tendency is not to use the traditional spoon-shaped curette, but to use a suction catheter - soft plastic to reduce the (already small) chances of perforating the womb.

I have had 2 and I call them a Dusting and Cleaning! LOL It's really an easy procedure. They scrap the lining of your Uterus and then suck it out. For exact details I would consult your doctor. It's kind of like forcing a period early only it doesn't last that long. I recovered when the anesthesia wore off, I know people that it took a day or two to feel better. If your about to have one don't be scared, it's pretty routine.

its a dialation and currege...they dialate your cervix, and scrape out the inside of your uterus. Its usually done after a miscarriage. They do it in a hospital and put you under general anesthesia. The whole procedure takes about 5 minutes. You get your period for about 2-3 weeks after. You feel a little crampy after the procedure. Its not as bad as it sounds.

http://www.emedicinehealth.com/dilation_and_curettage_dandc/article_em.htm
"The dilation and curettage procedure is called a D&C. The D stands for dilation, which means enlarging. Curettage (the C) means scraping. Together, this procedure involves expanding or enlarging the entrance of a woman’s uterus so that a thin, sharp instrument can scrape or suction away the lining of the uterus and take tissue samples."
If it's for you, good luck! :-)

D&C stands for Dialation and Curettage. It's when a doctor dialates your cervix, inserts an instrument, and scrapes your uterine wall. If you are having this done when you are pregnant, it is called an abortion. Can also be done in cases of miscarriage.
