I've got the itching and have had it for the past three days. But there is no odor. And my discharge is different. Yeast infection or not? I have a checkup comming up next week anyway so I will let my doctor know. But in the meantime is one of those OTC treatments what I need?

Having any of the following symptoms??

feels like an intense itching, burning sensation, localized in your vagina and vulva. this itching is not always present, but can get really bad, so bad you can hardly walk, let alone ride your bike to the pharmacy or doctor to get it treated.

looks like clumpy nasty white stuff. most medical descriptions compare the discharge to ricotta cheese, but it can range from thick and not clumpy to faintly yellow to thin and clear.

smells like bread or beer. in fact, it smells pretty much exactly like yeast, although the yeast used in brewing and baking is an entirely different species (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). no bacteria could smell like that, so it's a great diagnostic.

As for the OTC treatment, you can try it. It might relieve some of your symptoms. The doctor can tell what it is for sure and give you the correct medicine.

Unless you are sure you have a yeast you should not self medicate since that can actually make a bacterial infection worse. There are more things that can cause vaginal problems than yeasts. Meantime a yeast infection will sometimes have a bread type of smell but that is not always the case. Be sure to have this checked out next week.

If you have a yeast infection, the discharge will be thick, white or yellowish, and sometimes a little chunky. If it smells like wet bread, then it's most likely yeast infection. If there's no odor, it could be something else. OTC yeast infection treatments have warning labels on them stating not to use the product if you're not 100% sure you have a yeast infection. I would get your check up moved up sooner and get yourself checked out. If it's a yeast infection, there's a pill called Diflucan that gets rid of it very quickly, and isn't sticky and leaky like the OTC treatments.

You need to see a doctor. Maybe you have another type of infection down there....many infections can easily occur down there because it's so moist and warm, and the symptoms can be similiar. If it is a yeast infection, the monistat should work if you're taking all the doses, but perhaps the doc could give you something stronger.
