I am getting a tattoo, very soon...maybe today even! I know exactly what I want...and I almost know exactly where I want it. My favorite place I see is on the wrist, however, with my job, and maybe jobs to come, I didn't think this would be wise. I really like it though! I have pretty much settled on the top of my foot. I know it is supposed to hurt really bad, but it's the only place I could think of that I could show off, or hide for work. But, I won't be doing much showing off in the winter. :( So...I don't know, does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe a place I haven't thought of? Nothing like lower back please...way too overdone. I am also afraid of the pain, as I have a low pain tolerance. Any suggestions? Should I take some asprin before I go in? Thanks! Oh, and please please don't tell me not to do it. I have a few peircings and I don't think there is anything wrong with using your body to express yourself!

I am getting the word "mom" with vines and a couple lilacs (her fave flower) around it. It's the only thing I could think of that would be important to me for the rest of my life. :)

Get your tat on the the back of your arm or tricep area. That way you can show it off all summer and no job will ever be the wiser.
Don't do your feet as tats lose color and definition on the foot the fastest compared to anywhere else on your body. Also remember that the foot and the hand are the most painfull tattoos possible, other than genital.
As far as the pain involved, aspirin isn't going to help. The best thing for it is to just deal with it. I know you think I am being mean but really, the anticipation of the pain is worse than the actual pain of a tat, it is more like having a sunburn with a scratch on it.

Ok, top of the foot is bad. Most reputable places will not put tattoos on hands and feet. The skin and muscle are too thin in these areas. And if there is bone very shallow underneath the surface it will hurt more. Above the ankle is a good place, there is a little more muscle there and the bone can be avoided. My mother- and sister-in-law both have tattoos on the wrist and ankle. They aren't big, they are nice and feminine and these two HATED the tattoos that my husband has. Of course he is a guy with BIG tattoos on his arms, so I don't blame them.
I got mine on my back/shoulder. It is just a small butterfly. Location is entirely up to you, but long sleeves and pants can cover anything on ankles and wrists. And depending on what you get (arm band type) it just looks like jewelry anyway. Society is becoming more accepting of tattoos.
The pain is different for everyone. It felt like a black fly biting me for about 20 minutes when I got mine done. Nothing horrible. Some over the counter pain medication might help, not sure. Just grit your teeth and bear it.
Good luck.

You ankle would hurt less and be much less noticeable. You can cover it up with anything from socks to pants. Even at work, most people aren't looking at your ankles. I know you don't want it in an "overdone" place, but there are good reasons why people put them there.
If you have a low pain tolerance, there isn't much that can help you. Taking a pain reliever won't do much here. You'd need something to numb the skin, and that wouldn't be a good idea for a tattoo. You wouldn't be able to tell the artist if he/she is pushing too hard with the gun and you could end up with a badly scared area.
If you've gotten a few piercings and could stand the pain of that, you'll probably be OK getting the tattoo. Talk to the artist about your concerns and they will be able to suggest the least painful areas, and give you some ideas about where to put it.

Okay, first off, aspirin thins blood, so don't take that. Try a Tylenol. I have one on my shoulder blade, that can show off when I'm wearing a tank top, and one on my lower right leg, which can show off when I'm wearing a skirt, dress, or shorts. If you have a low tolerance for pain, don't do your foot. Way too many bones and nerves that are close to the skin there. If it's a classy tattoo, why not get it done on your wrist? You could also get it done on your neck (where your hair will cover it). Good luck!

Maybe you could get it on your back, right under your neck, or your ankle, or get one on your chest.
I have a tattoo on my left breast, and it didn't hurt too bad.
It's a ladybug!!
It feels like a bunch of little ant bites. Don't take anything before you go. I was told by my tattoo artist that it's not a smart thing to do.
How bad it hurts kinda depends on where your nerve endings are. When the needle hits a cluster of nerve endings or whatever, it intensifies by about 10%.

Put it above your hip bone, level with your belly button. Its easy to hide and slightly kinky. Very sexy.
Dont worry bout the pain. some people say it really hurts and it does a little but it shouldnt be to bad. Just dont let it go onto your bone, that really hurts.
The foot would hurt really bad cause theres thin skin and you can feel your bone through the skin. THat would hirt really bad.
As far as taking aspirin you can do that if you want. If you dont have a high pain tolerence you could def do that. The truth is that your drawing on your skin with a razor. thats more or less what it is.
But thats where I say you should put it. Good luck. Send me pics!
What do you want to get ?

Don't take aspirin!!!! It's a blood thinner, you'll bleed waaay more if you take any kind of blood thinner. Tylenol is a better choice. The foot is not the way to go if you're afraid of pain. It's very likely the most painful place to get a tattoo. Maybe the back of your neck?

Your tattoo means something to you. Do it you will love it. I have a tattoo and I get some of the best remarks about it. Do it where you want or you will never be satisfied.

My ex was a biker and tat artist . The best place in your case would be your ankle you can still show it off and it wont hurt as much. getting a tat in areas where there isnt a lot of fat like the top of your foot and your wrist is very pain full. the pain at first isnt that bad. I also have low tolorance. after the out line the pain doesnt seem to make a difference as much.
also keep busy if you have a friendly tat artist like our friend jo he will talk to you and joke around. so that would be better
