I think you are well meaning in your hope to build bridges of friendship between your two religious cultures. But I have to say i think you are misguided when trying to tackle this headon. It would be crass of you to attempt to befriend someone soley on the basis of their religion rather than getting to know them and bonding with the personality.
Unless there is an actual organisation that sets up coffee evenings solely for this purpose (and I would avoid them like the plague as they will be full of folk looking for an argument), I would just continue talking to people around you and making friends. It may be that you will make a friend of a jewish person serendipitiously.
Or you could organise a night of fun or contemplation of the common ground between your faiths and see who comes along.

Respect to you for extending the olive branch though. Good Luck.

Start with a well meant Shalom Alechem(Salaam Aleikum to you)
Be very sarcastic; Jewish people love sarcasm (really they do) At many times I have made some very good Jewish friends by making them laugh at themselves or the Jewish community . If you check Jewish jokes you will see that basically all they laugh about is themselves.
And don't be surprised by their Impoliteness. They can get very rude towards total strangers.

if this is a serious quetion then there are several aproaches that you could make ,like your faith the jewish faith places of worship allied to them are study groups you could try an intial contact through the synagogue, or you could try a web based contact , this however is fraught with danger , you do not know the person who is responding to your messages or e mails as an educated person you must realise the steps you need to put into place before any meeting.
good luck LF

I'm a Scotsman who grew up beside a Scottish Jew,Here's what I think-Don't bother trying too hard-nicer Jews are the ones that don't even tell you they're one anyway so the best way to befriend a U.K Jew is to be genuinely just getting on with it anyway.

Write/email them soon to make them aware that you still care for them and that you won't allow religious differences to come between the freindship, friends are friends no matter what, its the personalities that connect them not the religions

Just treat them like anybody else, and if they are open minded things will be fine.
