YES it hurts. It all depends on how far along you are. After the procedure is the worst. You feel a lot of cramping and experience a lot of bleeding. But don't be worried...if this is what you choose to do make sure to act on it right away. Good luck to you!

Way to be encouraging everyone. NO, it doesn't always hurt. I had an abortion when I was 4 months 12 days along, and I didn't feel any cramping or pain whatsoever, either before, during, or after the procedure. I went to Planned Parenthood, and they treated me very well. There is a lot of waiting in a special waiting room, and at regular intervals the nurses will come in and give you some pills to take. Knowing your blood type is very important beforehand. If you don't and it turns out you are a negative Rh, and the fetus has positive blood, it could seriously hurt you if you don't take a certain drug beforehand. After a while, they take you into a room and do an ultrasound to determine exactly how far along you are. Also, they ask you again and again if you are serious and want to go through with it. They warn you at the last and final step, when there is no going back, and ask you again if you are sure. Then finally it is time to go back into the room and have the actual procedure. It looks just like a regular doctor's office, or a gynecologist. You lay on the table, and by then you are so drugged up you have to have help up onto the table, but you can still function well enough. They have you sit in the stirrups and just relax. The whole procedure itself only took about 15-20 minutes. It feels like they're gently poking you, and you don't feel anything inside you at all. Then when you are done, they give you a pad (because the uterine wall lining is now dying like in your period) and you sit in a nice comfy lazy boy with a heating pad and just relax for a few minutes so the drugs wear off. It really only takes about 5 minutes. They warn you not to have sex or take baths for at least 3 months afterward, or you could get an infection that would make it impossible to have children in the future. It's serious business, and not somthing to be taken lightly. Be completely assured that this is what is right for you. Good luck and I hope this helped you.

There's different types of procedures D & C: dilation & curettage, where they remove the fetus in pieces.
Vaccuum: they suck the fetus out along with the other pregnancy materials
or you can take a pill and the abortion is induced in a few hours or days.
I'm sure each of these will be painful but doctor will give your medication for that.
Don't be afraid to go to a doctor and ask these questions. You have a right to get all the information you want and it is available on line as well.

You take a pill the night before the termination this ends the pregnancy, you go into hospital the next day and they use pesaries this softens the cervix and you go into labour which is like period pain, stomach cramps. you might feel sick. you wil then deliver into a cardboard pot so the nurses can check everything is there. you have to push the feutus out this can take up to five six hours from start to finish. it is the emotional side to look out for not the physical pain. this is one of the ways it is done in the uk under 12 weeks. the other way is a small operation.
good luck with everything.

they take a beautiful living life from your body.
some methods include sucking out their little brains so they can minimize your discomfort by squashing the babys head. other times they suck out the baby bit by bit with a vacuume, you know... ripping off it's little arms and it's little legs.
i did a research paper on it when i was in school. though i'm sure they do it in an immaculate operating room, there in not much that they can do about the sound you will hear, or the pressure you will feel.
before you make this desision, give it some real thought. you can never take this back. when you are all grown up and ready to start your family. you will remember this baby. when you look at the baby you planned for you will think, 'this is my second child'. whien your kids are growing up and you see them playing outside you will remember that they have an older sibling that they will never know and that you never named. if you do this, it will haunt you for the rest of your life.

My experience with my ex is that it hurts your heart in an emotional way more than any physical pain from the procedure. This is a pain that could haunt one for a lifetime, as it still haunts each of us.

the pill is not recommended and can cause problems in the future. depending how far along you are (before 3 months you dont get put to sleep, after 4, you get put to sleep) they put you in a chair silimiar to when you go to the gyno, and use a suction like vacuum. very painful, physically and emotionally. but bearable physically, and the 1st week after feels like horrible period cramping.

they treat you like a piece of meat... no sensitivity at all... request their money and put you in the street to recover wherever you can, still under the anesthetics effects and bleeding to suffer the remorse by your self without counseling or else.
Now... about the procedure... it is really fast but it depends on the clinic you are going. now...I DO regret have it done 10 years later... please think truly what you will do, no social pressure is worthy
