I am not a far left "peace and nothing else" person. i recognise the need for military action for self-defence. But this "war against terror" is not a conventional fight between two nation states. There are 1.5 billion muslims out there, thats 1.5 billion potential terrorists. The more muslims are attacked, the more they will fight back, and vice versa.

You can kill all the extremists you can, but you'll only breed more as you do.

lucky, WWII is nothing like the current war. Germany and fascism were a nation state. Extremists do not have a country.... when the allies took berlin the war was over. could you say the same if america and israel took Mecca for example?

I feel you are right. By the way things are going at the moment in the world, it's like ttrying to eradicate cockroaches. They just keep coming back in full force(i dont mean that in a rude way) Weapons have not solved anything, beliefs are stronger than ever, thats what some people hold onto in their time of desperation.

Killings never resolve any issue. Has it ever?

The world needs to wake up to everlasting peace by being more tolerant, oh, learn to live with each other differences, If we can learn to love and forgive, regardless of race, skins, the world will be a better place.

Oh 1.5 billion Muslims do not mean 1.5 billion potential terrorists, you are generalising (1.5 billion is a big numner); sounds like a politician trying to win a debate at all cost!

Yes, you are right. Violence tends to strengthen people's beliefs. You are wrong, though, that 1.5 billion Muslims = 1.5 billion potential terrorists. Islam is a peaceful religion. The terrorists are not fighting for their religious beliefs but for their political beliefs. They are using religion as a smokescreen - just as some Catholics and Protestants in Ireland do.

I am not a Muslim, by the way. My background is Christian (and pacifist.)

if you reseach bloody sunday your see that it was a peaceful march that turned into a massacre. after this disgrace the IRA got more recuits then ever before.
the same will happen again. i know not all americans are evil. or all muslims too. but even during a war if a E.G. iranian bombed my whole family making me the only survivor....even though i know not every iranian did this id want to sign up and get revenge. people need to start looking at both sides and opinions rather then their TV screens.

You are right that you cannot destroy a belief with weapons. I think that the terrorists of the Muslim faith (radicals, that is) capitalize on the fact that the Western world is basically ignorant of the true Islam beliefs and they can terrorize us with words as well as weapons. Muslims will continue to fight back to defend their true beliefs just as anyone else would.

1.5 billion muslims does not equal 1.5 potential terrorists. It takes a special kind of crazy to be a potential terrorist, being Muslim doesn't automatically qualify you.

And extremists have a hard time breeding when they're dead.

You raise a good point, you culd arguably say that you can only win if you wipe out all Muslims. But not all muslims are terrorists and destroying everything you agree with is terrorist mantality. No one wins in war, especially not one of this nature.

I understand what you are saying. An idea is hard to stop! The sad thing is, most Muslims are peaceful people who hate war as much as anyone else does. It is the minority of radical extremists that have hijacked their religion.

i definitely agree with this line of thinking

i often laugh when the dept. of homeland security says its increasing security at airports, train stations and the like

people, do you really think an x-ray machine and an 8$ an hour security guard is going to stop a person hell-bent on making a political point?

i think the only real solution to the middle east problem, is to be more fair handed with them on an economic level

well, actuall if you killed everyone with that belief.....

j/k
but really, not all muslims are potential terrorists. most of them are very peacful and are very much against what these small factions are doing. just like in christainity, there are different factions and some of these factions teach violence and hate. we are being conditioned in this country to believe that muslim equals terrorist or someone that hates americans.
