marvel.
because marvel has a more established storyline, the conflicts are also not as superficial as that of DC

It's cyclical. As a kid (70's early 80's) I liked DC b/c they had better powers and a more upbeat tone. But their writing wasn't so hot (a kid doesn't know) as far as character development. The characters were also continuing to get stronger to overcome each challenge. All brute force and ignorance.
Marvel- while doing better characters, tended to OVERDO them, and every story arc (no single issue for these guys!) was a soap opera. Thor, Silver Surfer...boring diatribes. Even Spider Man went way downhill after 30 issues. (I know b/c I have the essential Spiderman series) Daredevil was the same story each month.
So pretty even thru to the mid 1970s, maybe slight edge to DC w/ the exception that a most new Marvel titles started out interesting. (Ironically, X-Men was the exception, it was terrible at the beginning.)
Claremont however is a legend, and I think changed the industry. Once he got room to work at Marvel, the were clearly ahead.
'75-'85- Marvel.
By the time of the mid-80's, DC was either mailing it in (JLA), trying style over substance (Dial H for Hero, Infinity Inc, Outsiders, etc) or just over-the-top stupidity(Crisis, Frank Miller's Batman).
'85-'95-Marvel by a mile.
By the 1990's, Marvel was trying to outdo itself every time. New omnipotent characters keep showing up...which god is really immortal?!?
DC had some signs of improvement: Return of Superman was good. Miller's Batman was finally disappearing. They were trying to "reboot" the mistakes of Crisis. Characters powers were more limited.
1995-2002-Nearly even, edge to Marvel.
By the early 2000s, DC was coming back. Marvel had done every story so many times, it was getting old. They have trapped themselves in a universe that is despairing and gloomy. And how many immortals can be overcome by mere mortals to invoke yet another epic tale?
DC was finally getting it that the writing was important. Jeph Loeb is great. JLA Virtue&Vice, Earth 2...all pretty good stories. The characters had personalities. They were having interesting experiments (Supergirl).
But, they still have missteps: Batman opposed to vigilante justice against Dr. Light? Uh, hello? (Identity Crisis)
First Thunder? Drivel.
Current: Noticeable Edge to DC
In summary, both have legendary characters. DC's heroes still tend to be a little over the top (Superman, Capt Marvel, G Lantern) while Marvel's villains continue to be on a cosmic scale (Galactus, Phoenix, Beyonder, Onslaught). Curiously (and damn, I think I just came up w/ a college thesis) this summarizes the world view of each.
Marvel- Pessimism. Evil is overly powerful, and it's a struggle to survive. The effort itself is noble, but virtually futile. Resonates w/ angst ridden teenage boys.
DC- Optimism. Heroes will always come through. Good triumphs over evil, once it gets started. Resonates w/ pre-adolescent kids, and content adults.

I think that DC provies better comics all around.
the reason I say this is because of the following:
at the base level marvel and dc comics are the same (batman, wolverine, cap, jla, avengers).. But DC has an amazing side line called Vertigo. with stories like Y the Last Man, Preacher, Lucifer, Sandman, 100 Bullets, and the possible best comic around Fables.
The vertigo title puts DC way ahead of marvel. the quality and stories that come out of vertigo is amazing.

I like DC over Marvel because it is all about the story for DC. DC is and always building a good story around interesting events and situations. With Marvel it's all about emotion, you will read a 3 book story arc on how Peter felt the day Uncle Ben died. Civil War is about how each hero feels about being a hero. I am looking for a good story, the characters emotions to me are secondary.

right now I like what they are booth doing. I'm reading booth they are great.
but for now I would like to say DC name cause they have not for got their history where as marvel seem to enjoy rewriting their history to fit the new marvel. Such as making Jessica now wife of Luck cage a founding member of the Av angers and yet she is not in any of the original avengers books hm mm. Or just picking up the front page the newspaper and ripping of story ideas that way from other movies (Identify disc) or lets not start on the great idea that was house of M.
But they do have cool tittles that rocks. Ghost Rider love him, Supreme squadron great title, New avengers is great. Moon Knight is awesome. So yhea they do some good books
For now make mine DC

Marvel Comics cos I grew up reading them. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading Superman and Batman titles, but I think the Marvel Universe is a lot grittier than the DC Universe and that's why I like it.

I like Marvel comics cause 1 they have what i know more comic book story lines. x-men, spider man, hulk, fantastic 4 and more. As for DC only has things like super man and batman. Okay then the teen titans. then what they mostly do is spin offs those things. like night hawk is a spin off robin. Then lots of spin offs batman and robin. Also there is more than one teen titan. Well DC also has the justive league and JLU. Those are groups and well Marvel just has more comics to read on soloist and they go indepth on there story lines. They acuttly tell you the story line in comics in like short series or something. So i'm going to stay i prefer marvel for right now.

DC has absolutely horrible Artwork and the story lines are incredibly dependant on making each villian stronger and more dominant to the point they have to take the character into other worlds to fight...character development is not such a big deal with DC heros...the most relatable and human among them is Batman, who is a believable enough character...way to dark a world in DC.
Marvel is much better in terms of relatablity and introducing plot and characteristics..the reason we read stories in the first place.

I enjoy Marvel more because in my opinion their characters actually have feeling and are original. While DC may have some good character back stories, adding man/woman/boy/girl onto every hero's name gets old after a while.

The only marvel serries I care for is X-Men, but there are so many variations that it gets on my nerves.
As to DC, I tend to prefer their comics so far as story line goes, but the art can be very annoying with the way the staff is constantly changing. My favorites are Nightwing and Robin.

DC over Marvel, hands down....DC just has better storylines and a great character following while Marvel just has to screw up everything in their "Marvelverse" and are just trying to capitalize on what DC is doing.
