In my town, in the north of England, there are plenty of brightly coloured flower beds in full bloom at the moment. Some of these are private others planted by the local council. What they have in common is an almost complete lack of bees. You see the odd one or two but that's it. In my long-past youth you would have seen dozens. Is there a problem with the bees themselves or is it something to do with modern horticulture?

I have just started studying bee-keeping. The hives are smaller this year because of the odd winter we had. It warmed up earlier than it would normally and the bees emerged from the hives. Then we had a 'cold snap' and many of them were killed off.

I agree with you, I am 42 years old the bee population some how has dwindled. I do recall as a little girl seeing plenty bees floating from flower to flower pollenating them. I have wonder about alots of insects disappearing. I also want to know where all the frogs go. I don't know if the ozone has anything to do with it but I can tell you this I personally believe the sun is getting closer to the earth.

Refer to the song "Where have all the flowers gone?" The bees went with them.

On the other hand, The Bees are a really good music group ;-)

Hi, there are lots of different species of bumble bee and many of them are in decline. It could be due to farming techniques and the chemicals they use in crop spraying etc which has an adverse affect on wild plants, etc and it could also be due to diseases which also affect the bee population.

I don't know but I read about a month ago that there was going to be loads of bees this summer!
I haven't seen many - just wasps.

yes, I've noticed this as well even though i see some drones and was stung by one a month ago.

i think the increase in the number of houses, farming practices and lack of "untidy" places for them to survive the winter may be to blame.
