I had just transferred to a new position and was knee deep into a project....a customer/marketing event to be held on September 13th. In order to meet the aggressive timeline (and subsequently impress my boss), I called a colleague and borrowed one of her staff members to assist me. My work buddy hadn't been with our company very long...she had said that she just needed to get away from her former profession, but didn't give any details. What did I care? She was bright and eager to pitch in. We were just diving into participant registration, when the phone rang. I could see it was my mother, so I let it go to voice mail. She hung up and then called my cell phone....so I knew it was important. When I answered, she told me that a plane had just hit the WTC....and while I agreed this was tragic, I told her that I was in the midst of a meeting and couldn't talk about it at the moment. I hung up the phone and went back to my meeting...but a minute later, I didn't feel right....not in pain or anything just jumpy and not comfortable. I excused myself and walked out to the general office area (open concept....think Cube City). We have tv monitors on scattered on every floor in the building....At the time the monitors weren't on, so I ran back to my office and grabbed the remote and pressed on....the 24 hour news channel came on immediately......and the whole office was just in time to witness the 2nd plane hitting....Needless to say, there was nothing accomplished by anyone that day...and very little that week...like the rest of the world, we watched in horror, stunned.
I think back to that day often; about those people who died needlessly and their loved ones who miss them...I still cannot fathom anyone so evil that could kill so many innocent men and women.
Oh, one final note...the staff member that I 'borrowed' from a colleague to help me out? ....the experience we shared had bonded us. But in 2003, my work buddy advised that she was leaving our company and was returning to her former career.........she is now flying regularly to/from New York as a flight attendant.

I was just waking up to get ready to go to Trigonometry (college level) when my mom called from work and said to turn on the news, something was happening in New York City. I turned on The Today Show (which I don't watch, the television just happened to be on that channel) and saw the second plane crash. It looked like a movie, just completely unreal. I was in shock, totally numb all over to realize this was happening, but I went to class anyway. Everyone there had seen what happened, too and we were all talking about it, except the teacher who was like, 'We will do our work now'. The other students really turned on him for saying that, saying we were in the middle of a national crisis and how could he care more about Trig than that. The rest of the day was really just a blur. I stopped watching the news after 6pm because they just kept showing the Towers burning and falling. The images were just too horrific. My heart still goes out to everyone affected by the tragedy.

Just waking up, and I couldn't figure out why the DJs on the radio station I was listening to were saying such horrible things. The thing I remember most about that day was driving to work with one hand over my mouth, listening to the news on the radio, and watching the other drivers do the same thing. We'd all kind of look at each other in horror at the stoplights. There was no beeping horns, no one trying to cut anyone off - everyone was so polite and....stunned. My dad says he turned on the morning news and that's all there was was a picture of the first tower that was hit, smoking. He thought it was an ad for a new movie, even after the announcer came on and said what was going on. It was so surreal.

I was getting ready to go to work. My mother-in-law called and told me to turn on the news. I was in utter shock. I saw the second plane fly into the other tower and couldn't fathom what I was seeing. I do field work for my company so I visit many businesses and the shock and disbelief was everywhere. Over the next few days, as we learned what had happened, the feeling turned to deep anger. There was a patriotic swelling that was beautiful to watch. An entire nation drawn together. They didn't just hit an economic landmark, they sucker punched America and we were pissed! Too bad the left has forgotten what that was like and divided the nation again.

I was getting ready for work and listening to the news. I couldn't absorb it...and it made me late. I felt stunned and in shock...and I didn't know what it meant. When I got there, everyone was quiet and subdued. Unlike other news stories, we were speechless. Everything was at a standstill...there was a hush over everything...and then we said a prayer together. Business dropped off dramatically...and the remainder of the day was unusually quiet and reverent...we practically whispered all our transactions...and people were politer than normal. We were worried and fearful...waiting for more news and developments.

I was at work, we didn't have a radio or anything but people started coming back from the cafeteria where we had a TV that was set to CNN...it was weird, because we still had to work...but a lot of people watched in the cafeteria that day and I raced home to turn on the news afterward. My husband and some friends of ours went to donate blood after they got home from work and were at the bloodbank until midnight that day.

getting ready for work when my 6 yr old told me the same thing was on all the channels. I went to the living room and saw the plane hit the second tower. I sank to the footstool and just stared at the TV. The thing I remember most is listening to the message the young man left his mother from flight 93. I still cry when I hear that.

Driving on to a Canadian Air Force base to drop off a Friend. The mood changed between when I drove on to the base, and by the time I drove off. It was the first time, I've ever seen a Machine Gun. and hopefully the last.
