I play in an adult hockey league and the games are often late in the evening. I find it difficult to fall asleep after games and usually stay up at least 2-3 hours after the game. I end up being tired at work the next day. What can I do to fall asleep quicker.?

Wow, there are a couple of good suggestions and I haven't had time to try them out, so let's put this to a vote.

I have a 45 minute drive home from my games... That's a good start.
Eventually a beer and watching Futurama or Family Guy on Cartoon Network does the trick.
Total time: 75 minutes.

I gave up trying to answer that question years ago. I accepted that I'm not going to fall asleep so after the game most of us go to our sponsors for a few beverages of choice and munchies (pizza or appetizer plates) Word of advice - Wives do not understand that it is better that we go out after the game than come home and not get to sleep. Also you better accept that you are going to be tired at work if you are going to play adult hockey.

Have to agree with Mikemike. Go hard every shift, like game 7 of the cup. Just wear yourself out. After wards, again, if you have time left on the ice, do suicides. Skate from the goal line to the blue , back , then to the red line, you know the drill. Until you simply can't anymore. I work out and I go to failure, until the weight hits the floor because I can't hold it. I'm exhausted after wards. Good luck.

I used to have the same problem. The best solution I found was getting a nice shower after the game at home. Then, just get dressed for bed after the shower. If you shower at the rink, you still have to drive home and it screws up the whole thing.

The problem is that your metabolism is too high from all the adrenaline. I would try a hot shower followed by some yoga to relax you to the point that you might be able to fall asleep faster.

Agreed, wear yourself out. Treat each shift like it will be your last. If that doesn't work, try reading, or watch a tape of a Boston Bruins game.

adrenaline rushes just before sleep time are difficult to get over...sleeping aids might be the answer, could be addictive though...maybe try power napping throughout the day if feasible...
