(a+b) (a-b) = a²-b²
so y²1/4-9 1/4

(y1/2-3 1/2)(y1/2+3 1/2) is also the same as (y/2-3.5)(y/2+3.5) so the answer would be {(y^2)/2^2 -3.5y/2 + 3.5y/2 + 3.5^2}, then cancell out -3.5y/2 + 3.5y/2 because that would be equal to 0. then the final answer would be {(y^2)/4 - 12.25}. hope this helps... :)

The answer is 0 because both of the brackets contridict each other and cancels each other out. Unless you do mean the first y is a Y and the second is a small letter y. See, you multiply both of them toghter, -3.5*+3.5 will equal 0 (well i think it does, If i am wrong, just go and ask the experts at www.cclub.editboard.com they will help ya out)
