I don't... Brain Salad Surgery was a classic... benny the bouncer... brilliiant... music critics are just that, critics, they don't like anything... they can be a little stupid

Being an old git, I loved The Nice - so already had a soft spot for ELP when they started. "America" by The Nice - a ten minute single! Keith Emerson sticking knives in his organ! Oo-er missus! "Pictures at an exhibition" by ELP - excellent.

Musically they were / are excellent musicians, and in other bands or solo settings have proved themselves good songwriters. Together however, I found their style of prog rock lacking in soul, trying to be clever and slightly overblown. they could definitely have done with a guitar to break it up. there was a rumour in the late 60s in ELPs formation period that Hendrix was approached to join them. now what would that have sounded like?

A lot of people enjoyed their music. Hey, Jimi Hendrix almost joined them! LOL
While they are not my favorite, I enjoy listening to Lucky Man on occasion.

My Dad loves ELP as does my brother, but i don't see the appeal of them myself. No specific reason why, their just not my cup of tea.

Seriously. I remember trying to study one night when it was on the radio, and I couldn't concentrate at all. I had to change the station.
