Zip City, Alabama.....so named because of all the cars zipping through the town on their way to Tennessee..the closest place to buy whiskey,

Cashtown, Pennsylvania...so named because the one tavern owner would only accept cash.

Ten Sleep, Wyoming...named for a unit of measuring the distance from Fort Laramie,Wyoming from the Native Americans.
Ten sleeps meant ten nights travel time.

Bargaintown, New Jersey....named by a land developer who thought to lure settlers with the promise of cheap land.

Novi, Michigan...The sixth stagecoach stop outside Detroit was marked by a sign with Roman numerals,NO VI...people thought that it was a word.

My source was Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, Volume 18.
