Are you, by chance, dealing with land area versus border length? In that case, Delaware would be somewhere in the 2-4 range, after Rhode Island ( compare with Vermont and New Hampshire ).

I can only assume you are talking about size? We are second... as it goes Rhode Island, Delaware, Connecticut.
But also the first state, and the "diamond state."

You got it wrong Andrew, California is NOT the 50th state - that honour belongs to Hawaii which is why, given Blair's A**e licking the U. K. is regarded as the 51st state.

You've stumped me...all I can tell you is what it is not. You cannot be referring to population rankings (total or growth), elevation rankings (highest/lowest points or mean), area rankings, or order of statehood. Being in the geography category, I assume your puzzler has something to do with geographical rankings. The only reason I answer is so that I remember to come back and check what the correct answer is...you've grabbed hold of my curiosity.
