I have always used a wash cloth to get the soap out of my daughters hair but the water and soap trickle down her face and she HATES it. Any other suggestions? I have also tried getting her to lean back but she isn't comfortable with it.

Make it a game. Lean her back for a second say "weeeeeee" and quickly use the washcloth while saying "im gonna getcha" and then lean her back up before she gets angry. You may have to do it a couple of times to get all the soap out but I figure it is longer that fighting with her. I suggest doing the lean back and say weee thing a couple of times before doing the hair so that she thinks it is a game. After she is having fun, incorporate the im gonna getcha hair washings. I use the "make it seem fun" approach for almost everything. It is the only way I can wash his face after he eats without him getting angry. Hope this helps.

If you have a long enough counter next to any sink in your house have your baby lay down on her back on the counter. With her head over the sink. That way she can look at you and know that she is safe and she can feel the firmness of the counter under her. Then you can sign songs or whatever and all the water and soap drips into the sink instead of down her face.
Use a cups of water to rinse her her.... don't try to shove her under the tap or anything....

Have her lean her head back only and close her eyes. Put your hand right at the hairline to act as a shield. Slowly pour the water. This should help keep it out of her face.

I put only a few inches of water in the tub and tell my son to lay on my arm like a pillow then gently rinse his hair. I've done this with all of my boys and they are great with getting the hair done now. It will take a few tries at this but she will get the hang of it just go slowly.

Well, this might not be the greatest advice, but both of my boys love it... When I'm ready to rinse their hair, I say, "Time to rinse...NIAGARA FALLS!" and dump several cups of water over their heads. They have always loved getting their hair wet... They squeal and laugh and splutter. :) When they get to the point that they can sit up and it's difficult to lay them back and rinse them, this is when you have to improvise (which is obviously what you're doing :)).

If they're sitting up straight, very little (if any) water goes into their noses and mouths, so you don't have to worry about them choking. I use tear-free shampoo, so if a few suds do get in their eyes, it's no biggie.

Use a cup. It's going to do the same thing though if she's not leaning back. Let's face it - it's called gravity -- she's going to get some in her face. She's not going to "like" it but that is the way it's done.

I found something for my son to lean on since he refused to lay back. It worked very well, I guess it was just the back support making him feel more comfortable. Then warned him it was coming i.e. 'here we go!', and put my hand over his eyes as a shield. Worked wonderfully for me.

My daughter would scream like I was beating her or something... I hated washing her hair... I ended up just using a wash cloth rolled up around her forehead so It wouldn't get in her eyes...she is still screaming and she is 23.... ha ha!!!

Put a thin line of vasoline across her forehead. Right above the eyebrows. It help divert the water away from her face.
