Unless you are a millionaire, constructing a germ-proof bunker with bio-suits will probably be financially out of the question.

I don't think it's crazy to have a reasonable plan in place for a situation, that is perhaps a little less dire than the one in The Stand.

I live in Singapore right now and I'm concerned that there could be a reappearance of a more resistent, deadlier strain of the SAR virus. I keep enough water, food, medicine and emergency supplies on hand to be able to stay holed up in my apartment for several months without venturing out and having possible contact with infected people.

So I think you should take reasonable precautions, but don't get totally crazy about it.

If it happens and produces the percentages you state, I'm afraid the surviving 3 % will be busy all of their lives trying to bury the 97% who died.

And it will mean that the few survivors will have to adopt a way of life that can keep them alive. Also mixing the races will become almost mandatory since it will be almost impossible to satisfy racially-strict people.That might be a benefit that will help the world survive.

When do you think this will happen, I'd like to start stocking up on groceries and start selecting my neighbors.

why should you worry about that considering the fact that there is a greater chance that you can die from things such as a car crash or even a lightning strike.the things you are talking about only governments should worry about thats what they are for. if the time ever came and you had the supplies there would be a 99 percent chance that you would not be there to use it and as far as germ is concern if you become infected it would be too late to put on a germ suit whats the point in putting it on after you are infected.

Well that would be wild, I read the stand. The part I thought was wild was where the army guys were killing the uninfected on television. Maybe if that does happen the price of gasoline will go down.

Its fiction maaaaan but 97% of population would die. I have read the stand five times and have the film on two video's. Its one of his best books and I have most of them, but you must realise its a story.
