A family pet is part of the family & should be treated as one.the people who left them behind like that should be charged.unless it was out of there hands,as in they were in a survival situation themselfs.

A human baby is between the most fragile organisms on the planet. From the day that's born, it desires a bodily in a position adult to look after it till it reaches the age of seven or 8. Pets, on the different hand, are literally not as 'incorrect' as our little ones are. A canines or cat can survive contained in the wild...because the wake of katrina may be said as...very few months after that's start. What i'm getting at is, the pets can look after themselves. little ones could no longer. So i imagine that persons leaving thier pets, given thier circumstances, could no longer be convicted in any respect.

I am a pet lover, I have a dog, cat, rat, and snakes. I love my animals. I live in Mid America, so the threat of hurricanes is not part of my life. But, I don't think I could judge anyone that went thru Katrina on what they did with their pets. This is a question of human survival, if I was faced with animal cruelty after I spent many months in shelters striving to save my family, I think that would be too much. They have been thru too much. If it were people or actual babies, I would see the point. If it were a vet clinic, I could see it. Not someone trying to get away and save what they could to survive.

When we ran from a hurricane here in FL we went to MD and took our dogs with us. It was a difficult drive. Not everyone who left because of Katrina had that option. I have 2 large dogs and it was very cramped in our mid-size vehicle with 3 people and 2 dogs. New Orleans was a city with bus transportation and taxi-cabs. Not everyone had their own car to leave. They had to leave with friends or by bus. You couldn't take your animals with you. I am sure that it was a difficult decision for most people with pets. And I have to say, I love my animals dearly, but my children being out of harms way would come first. I was lucky, I didn't have to make that choice.

You obviously don't understand the full extent of which KATRINA hit.
Your question is just as scattered.
Maybe this is our society's problem...we interchange the words babies, animals and pet as being one in the same.

there's a reason for everything that ppl do.....I'm sure most of those ppl didn't want to leave their pets.
lots of ppl look at their pets like they are their own child....or family member....and when they had no choice but to leave them...I'm sure it pulled at their hearts and the owners had some major restless nights till they got to see their pets again.
i understand the question you are asking...and I'm sure there were lots of owners who didn't care....but, before you get to upset...it's best to see which owner tried to leave their pet in a protected area while the storm was going on.
not everyone just up and left their pets cuz they wanted to......they just couldn't take them for one reason or another.

have you been here to help out?
then how can you sleep knowing you did NOTHING to help?
have you been here? did you see the destruction with your own eyes? the media does not even come CLOSE to showing you how we are (have been) living for the past year.
how many dogs did you rescue? how did you get dog food here when people food was hard to get? did you help get any dogs and owners reunited?
SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME
i stayed with my dogs because i COULDN'T take them.
