I understand we can't regulate foreign made flags, but we should make it law that all American made (USA) flags need to be fire proof so idiotic un-partiotic people look follish and burn themselves trying to desicrate our country. I think a lot of them are but I don't know if thats true for every.

I do think it would be comical one day if they are out on Constitution Ave trying to light a flag and no, it's a no go haha. I understand freedom of speach, I think we should be able to object to policy, law, etc. However I don't think discracing your country has anything to do with it and should be considered a crime. Even just like a $250 fine and give them community service, trust me anti-american far-far-left liberals (im not calling out liberals) couldn't afford $250 every protest.

Flag burning can be more then just offensive it can be a threat to our country. You never know when some crazy group of people get together to rally and start vandalizing and attempting to terrorize government agencies. If a foreigner did this we would hold them in a secret place. I just think that people just like to piss of Americans so they do it and it works. I just wish I had large posters of them so I could burn a symbol of them. I don't think they would like that.

That would be a blast to watch an anti-american zeolot trying to ignite a completely fireproof flag.
I would laugh my feathered *** off.

I think this is a valid question, and a good idea. However, it would be the last thing on my list that I would want to be fire-proof. Before, making the flag fire-proof I would make sure the following are equally "fire-proof"

1. Policy both foreign and domestic.
2. Civil rights record.
3. Actual observance of the freedom of speech
4. Electoral reform and record.
5. Equality.
6. Tolerance on basis of race, creed, colour, sexuality and religion.

A short list, so difficult to achieve, but a goal, if attained, would make the need to have the flag fire-proof redundant; isn't that strange?

It seems such a short time ago that protests over the war in Vietnam were held up as shining examples of the first amendment, didn't take too long to revert did it?

This is just one more thing that shows this country is headed towards facism.

We are loosing our freedom of speech. People have been burning flags for years and it has never been a big deal. I have an idea, if you dont want to see someone burning a flag dont watch. As an American you still have that right. That is, until it is taken away by the Patriot Act.

Actually as great as that would be for many reasons it would complicate its 'retirement'. Currently when a flag is to old, worn, etc. the way to dispose is a flag burning ceremony. Theres many ways you can donate your old flags and that's all you see of it but they are then given to boy scouts/JROTC/ROTC/Military Honor Guards/etc. and an honorable flag burning ceremony is conducted, which going back to the beginning that would be complicated if they were flame retardant... but I guess we could make a new 'retirement ceremony', I don't know what would work tho except like.. a drum of acid ....
Hope this helped! :D

Since the flag is a representation of our ideals as a democracy the flag itself can be destroyed but not the ideals for which it stands. The ideals, however can be destroyed when we forget that we must protect the original representation, that being, "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." BTW I am a Marine. I was trained to defend this country against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic and I was further trained to use violence ONLY as a last resort, when all else fails, when the most vulnerable amongst us are being attacked. You cannot and will not incite this Marine to violence by burning a flag because you cannot and will not destroy my ideals. They are etched upon my soul and they will stay upon my soul long after a mortal death. Peace at all costs!!!Pride, vanity, ego, false patriotism all "enemies" of our land "enemies" within our very borders, domestic, our own battle now within our borders, making us truly vulnerable to foreign attack as our "infantry" is busy trying to put out a brush fire while the entire forest is ablaze, behind us, and out of our range of vision. I thank God I no longer have to salute our chief of staff, as I am currently on inactive duty. And I could never pretend that our chief of staff has anything but his own business interests at heart and not the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of every American his office is supposed to represent. I Thank God. Peace.

That is what I have been asking but I am sure then all the extreme anti-flag burning people will demand a law against flag warming.

I hate flag burning and personally would like to see it legal to kick the stuffing out of someone who did it but I also think it is against the spirit and ideals of America to make flag burning illegal

Patriotic or un-patriotic is irrelevant. This is America and the last time I checked, We The People(sound familar?) have the right to assembly and the right to protest. Weather that includes burning a flag or not.

Because nobody would buy them, and they'd be unprofitable.

The people who wanted to burn flags wouldn't buy them because they don't burn, and the people who didn't want to burn flags would buy the cheaper kind; welcome to America, champion of capitalism.

If you're so offended by a burning piece of cloth, you shouldn't be living here. Tolerance means swallowing the offenses others toss at you, so long as it doesn't harm you directly. Trying to restrict other people's freedoms is unpatriotic.

I don't know if that would be possible as asbestos is a carcinogen; however it might be possible to use a flame retardant that would take the zest out of burning a flag. Great idea! I like it.
