Thinking about having a baby (when it comes!) & opening a store with children's clothing and stuff (franchise or not) to make a living. Perhaps with another collaborator to share the working hours.
Thanks!

You really must be sure you can afford to quit. Regardless never leave a job on bad terms, you never know what your past will do to your future. New businesses do not always succeed so remember you may be looking for a job again someday.
Do the research in categories of priority first. For example, you can not do anything without the money it will take to start, so you will need to know what location and how much the store/building will cost you at least the first 3 months to 1 year(depending on any contract). You will get nowhere without the inventory, where will you be getting the merchandise? How do they ship, what is your cost compared to present market rate? Will the equipment be included in the rental? The answer most of the time is no. What supplies will you need in order to run your business? A simple cash register and the classic file system, (pen, paper, files, calculator...) Computers and software? The software can sometimes help with the tax plans and help better track loses and gains. Orders may also go more smoothly and orderly with the help of the correct computer setup. Do you know what all documents, licenses, tax information, etc. that you will need? Will you need to hire a lawyer, tax consultant, or are you capable enough to do all this yourself and keep the IRS and such from "looking at you twice”? This is a lot to think about, which is why you should first sit with your partner and write everything down in one straight shot and then split it into sections then you can start to figure out the answers. Unless you have all ready.
I would wait on having a baby until you have established and are comfortable with the business routine. Use a family member or friend's child in commercials or ads at first. Have the baby only when you are sure of your finances, your time, and lowest stress level. Remember you will have a baby for 5 years and a shadow for at least 10 years. Those are precious times and believe me you do not want to risk having any regrets; you can never go back to those times. You could open a childcare center for a small group of children with-in your business, but I would still give your business time for a good settlement before trying to have your own.
You could also plan the baby while you are in your youth still; people establish businesses in their 50’s with great success. If you are unhappy at your present job, make a small change for now that may give you some experience you will need when you do open a business of your own.
With the little information that you have supplied there are so many ways to go. I hope this has helped open your mind to the direction you are searching. Big steps in life call for detail and thought. There are no right on answers anyone can give you that would be right, but it should help to get other’s thoughts so that you may think of things you never thought of before. Good Luck!

Karen 27, 1 daughter age 9 years (I have missed much of her past 6 years because of some bad choices, please plan ahead!)

My present job, no challenges, extremely poor pay, no ability for growth, in other words it just a skill builder. Most people suggested that I should first look for another job before quitting this one. I have being doing that since January without success. Then last month it finally hit me, if you really want to make a change, you have to come out of that which is not helping and resolve to do it from the bottom of my heart. In other words looking for a new job became a part time thing and I could not attend most of the interviews since I was busy trying to complete my office assignment. I said enough is enough and tomorrow I am leaving this work. Everyone again is trying to persuade me to stay but if am comfortable, I know change will not be easy. I have learnt if you want something really badly, you must be willing to take a risk. I have no clue what awaits for me and I know it will be tough securing another job, but I know everything will be ok since am determined to make. Beside the higher the risk, the high the outcome.

So if you are dertermined enough, do it.

If you quit your job now how will you live? If you want to have a baby and open a store for kids stuff etc where will you get the money? Never quit a job without a new one. If you dont like your job look for another and keep working until you get it.

The biggest part of a career change is the planning ahead. If you can, save all that you can in a special (career change) account. Make plans (written) about what the store would be, where it would be... ask other similar stores what has worked, what has not.

You're brave... live your dream - but plan for it. That said, if you hate your current job, find one you can grow with. No need to punish yourself in a job that you hate.

Order is wrong. Start the Bizz now. Have the baby when it is running. Once you have your kid you will not get around to it untill he/she is at least 10 or 15.

Only you and your husband can answer this. Why ask this question of strangers who know nothing about you, your abilities or your circumstances. And why take advice off anyone at random with knowing their backgrounds, experiences and abilities?

If it helps you, I can answer this question because I'm a world famous neurosurgeon and I'm currently in the middle of a heart transplant.

Unless your job is making really unhappy, I would stick with it until either the baby is coming or you have other viable options.

Good luck!
