I told my husband this very same thing in this manner..."honey, remember that poem by Gibran that was read at our wedding? *let there be spaces in your togetherness* well, I need space in our togetherness! I really need to interact with my girlfriends and I need a night out. I love you dearly but I just need to be with the girls on Saturday night" (or whatever night you choose). He couldn't say no when I put it to him that way!

If he has any male friends, send the "spouse" out for a guy night and then have the girlfriend time. I know women need some bonding time just like guys do! If you can't get rid of him, plan it in the early afternoon and LIE...oopps, you ran into your friends and one thing led to another. Turn off your cell. Enjoy yourself and deal with it in the morning. He'll lighten up when you can prove that you're not going to be held down just because he's married to you.

Tell your spouse that even though you're married, you are still two unique individuals. You are not going to morph into an amoeba and become one, you have your own dreams, friends and identity that you need to nurture. It's what he fell in love with in the first place.

Have the girls over and banish him to another part of the house. When he sees who they are and what you are doing, he'll loosen up.
Or he won't.
Then tell him you are not siamese twins joined at the hip.

you don't need girlfriend time you need to get layed well by him and you'd forget about girlfriends.
