Hi, I had a laproscopy several years ago for similar reasons and was surprised at how painful I found the recovery. I went in not really knowing what a laparoscopy was and expecting to be back at work the next day - which was not possible. I found it quite painfull afterwards, I was very swollen and had black bruises up my tummy where the camera had been pushed and the swelling took about 3 weeks to subside. I would certainly advise that you try to get some help with your kids for a good couple of days afterwards so you can just rest up and recover.

Best of luck, hope you get a diagnosis so your cysts/pain can be sorted.

I'm an ER doc, not trained in surgery (except for the 3 months I spent in surgical rotation in my intern year), but know enough to give you advice. Obviously, if they find something during the laparoscopic (explorative) phase of the surgery, they will open you up and go for the big surgery...you'll be in some pain for few days afterwards. But if it's a straight forward, ("okay, it's all clear, I've seen enough, there's nothin' wrong, lets pull out and go home") kind of laparoscopy, then you will only have 1 or two (at most) 2 centimetre cuts on your belly. Depending on the hospital/medical centre that you have the procedure at, you might even be let home the same day. You'll be a bit sore, and feel a bit bloated (because they inflate you with gas during the laparoscopy), but you can still do your usual things. Having 4 kids can be a bit hard...hope you have a helpful hubby...bending over and giving them a bath, picking two of them up at once, trying to settle a 2 year old in a full blown tantrum state might be a little too much for your post-op belly...but you'll be fine in 2 days.

so, during the operation, u won't feel anything bcz of the anaesthesy..after that, ur doc will give u analgesics to reduce the post operative pain.
risk????there is always risk of doing this, for example infection.... but if u were in good hands, i am sure everything will be fine...
anyway, why don't u ask ur doc about endoscopic laparoscopy??it's more safe and less risk, but of course more difficult and more expensive..good luck!!
