I think you are correct, but I am not an atheist or religious, and am registered as an independent, I make up my mind who to vote for by person not party. Hope you get more answers so you will be in a better mood today.

I am Catholic and I tend to vote more democrat than republican, though I do not feel compelled to do so. I am registered as a democrat in my state as the democratic primaries usually have far more impact and choice, but in the general election I do not vote the party line at all. I vote based on who's stances on issues is closest to mine, because no one will ever agree totally with me (unless I ever run, then I think it likely I'll vote for me all the time).

How many say they are religious because they think it sounds good and makes them better? Sorry the more I hear people say "I am so religious" the more I think theyare a hypocites. Worship the god of your choice but don't tell me who or what to beleive in. As far as I know God isn't into politics so stop insulting him by acting so self-rightous. Vote for who you think will do the best job not by what church he attends or doesn't attend. It has nothing to do with what party you belong to.

I am thinking more atheists are democratic and more religious people are republican.

I think you didn't understand my answer because you didn't even understand the bias in your question." I'll simplify it for you. It doesn't matter what party you belong to or which god you beleive. in.

I'm a hard-core Atheist as well as a hard-core conservative republican. And I know at least 2 other people who hold almost the exact same views as I do, plus several others who are atheist but more moderately conservative than I am. So it's not impossible, and I think it's much more common than most people believe! And quite frankly, I, as an atheist, resent being lumped into the same category as liberal democrats! :-)

American Atheist Association reported that most of it's members identify themselves as Republican. I am an Atheist and would NEVER vote for a political party that has room in it for Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson.
