I love the Chronicles of Narnia. I read the series, 7 books, through about every three years with my kids.
I love the imagery. I love the feel of the Woods Between the Worlds in The Magician's Nephew. I LOVE going through the mothball smelling wardrobe into the cold, crisp snow of Narnia in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I love putting my fingers into Aslan's fur and feeling his warm breath as he blows on my face. I love Tumnus's home and drinking tea with him. I love Reepicheep's small but valiant voice.
I relate as a child would relate to Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy when they get pulled back into Narnia in Prince Caspian. I love Destria, the horse, and we call one of our horses Destrian on days when he is particularly beautiful. Trumpkin reminds me of a dear elderly friend.
I love Puddleglum, the Marsh-wiggle, in The Silver Chair. I cry when Reepicheep leaves the story in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and goes to the other side. When he returns later in the series, I cry again.
The Chronicles of Narnia is my all time favorite read aloud. I took the kids to see the movie. Although I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't as moved by the movie. The books just work so well as written. CS Lewis was a genius and put so much life into the books, and it worked in so many dimensions.
The movie, however, was well-casted. The kids were real. Tumnus was, well, exactly as I visualized. The quiet of the woods, although it didn't play well in the movie and seemed "slow", was exactly what it should have been. While I don't believe that in the book Father Christmas asked anyone if they had been good, that scene was fairly well done, as well.
I really hope that in future renderings of the story to film, they won't mess with the spiritual aspect of the story. Even if a person is not a Christian, one should be able to experience the genius of the story as it weaves in and out of fairy tale and allegory.
In my opinion, The Chronicles of Narnia is a masterpiece and well worth reading -- especially out loud to children! Don't forget to make some yellow and green rings of bread ties before settling in for an active and engaging adventure!

I loved the Chronicles of Narnia. There are a lot of Christian themes in the books and I am not a Christian, so that is saying something.
The film was also a very good adaption.

The books are great. I've read them all. They're rich in symbolism and C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century, so if you just read them for the story you're just scratching the surface. My favorite would have to be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I've never read anything by C.S. Lewis that didn't make me think and feel, which really, isn't that what books are supposed to do?

I read the series last year. Had I read the novels when I was a child, I don't think I would have been able to see what C. S. Lewis was actually writing about.

I thought the book was not so bad. I have read better books though. (Like Sidney Sheldon's books.)
