It saddens me to see how some countries ignore the principles of the UN. I think these countries should re-visit history and check out why the UN was formed in the first place.
I think, unfortunately, the UN has become a paper tiger, but through no fault of its own.
I can't see what difference it will make if they form a military force, as they still wont get authorisation to shoot from the powers that be.

The primary objectives of the United Nations (UN), as laid down in its Charter are; a) to avoid the recurrence of violent conflicts, b) affirm fundamental human rights, c) guarantee respect for international law and improve living standards across the globe. Among these three objectives, UN has not done anything other than some humanitarian efforts on natural calamities.
Nearly 60 years of conflict is going on in Middle East, if the objective of UN was to avoid recurrence of violent conflicts, then this conflict has been solved years before. Hiroshima Day has passed away and today it was anniversary of Nagasaki bombing. i.e. 61st Anniversary of the atomic destruction of Hirsohima City and Nagasaki City. We can see the living martyrs of that brutal barbarian bombing still there as a symbol of "Little Boy & Fat Man, the Nuclear Bombs" which killed nearly 214,000 people. It was happened 61 years before and since then UN has not blocked even a single grenade attack anyware.
It is not United Nations, it is called "Useless Nations". It is like a Promerian Dog, which barks according to the instructions of 5 permanent Security Council Members. Barking Dogs seldom Bites - I think this proverb is more suitable for UN. The number of permanent members in UN Security Council has to be increased. The fate of our blue earth is not under the ultimate custody of these permanent security council members.
US has sold and selling to Pakistan as well as to India. Everyone knows both of these countries have conflicts. Then why a permanent member of Security Council is doing this kind of deal. I believe some of the American Politicians has more financial benefit through these dealing. If we make an investigation on trading of weapons, we will find amazing results. If some of the result will be aiming at UN officials, I will not be surprised.

The UN has used military force in the past. As far as the military conflicts the UN sucks and shouldn't go into the war business.

the UN was errected in the 1940's to bring an end to military conflict!!!
I think it would be contradicting itself by errecting a military force!!
The power balance in the world is unfortunately hanging so strongly to the US side of things that it has indeed become hard to stop either them or their allies.
It might be better If we divided the different continents or
parts of the world. gave them a separate union And unite them under one central president. THis way there would be less division and bigger power blocks that could stand up for themselves

Even with teeth the UN will be an herbivore. There are too many left wing countries with veto power. It is against the U.S. Constitution to let American troops be under the command of any other flag. We must be careful in that arena.

The UN is a waste of time and money. It should be disbanded or removed from US soil. It works against us at every turn. It's an organization of thugs and dictators. It is totally without merit or value of any sort.

Yep. international co-operation means there is a force to keep the US multilateral in its foreign policy, and that there is less chance of future military conflict in europe.
Answers below from US citizens kind of prove why they should not be able to act unilaterally. It is so easy for corrupt politicians to whip up public support over there for anything.

the UN is a joke it should be called "lets all do what the US wants to do, if you dont like it then pi$$ off." Israel is in violation of more resolutions than all other countries combined, it wages war for four weeks and still the UN is asleep. how long did it take to mobilise when Iraq invaded Kuwait? its become a pointless organisation
