go to nha trang, great beach, and take day tours to "ba ho" & and "suoi thien", take the city tour.. and spend your nights at the many resturants & bars.. its the only city in viet nam where everything is centraly located, beach, resturants ,bars tour guides... you can do your shopping in 1 afternoon on the way home either sai gon or ha noi. ha noi and sai gon are fine, and they are good jump off points for other places of intrest, but if you only have 1-2 weeks...[?] spend 5 days in and around nha trang... hey be flexable and have a back up plan[ always in vn].. if you dont like one spot .. its easy to move on...

Hanoi. No question about it. The city is one of the most beautiful in the world and a city of lakes. You can spend two days walking the incredibly fascinating streets and be in the French area and the old silk shopping area.
You can take a day trip to Ha Long Bay and see huge rocks jutting from the ocean on a boat you rented for $35 where they will cook you a seaood lunch with wine. The Vietnamese say the most beautiuful women in Vietnam come from here and if you are in to sightseeing you have found the place.

You can go to the snake village .

Or you can do nothing except savor the beauty, the grace , the culture and the charm of Hanoi ...and years later ask "was I really there ...?

the best place is Ho Chi Minh city cause that city is nothing but TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. trust me, there're bunch of things to do there, also, there're many great places to visit such as BEN THANH market (the most famous market in VIETNAM), DUC BA church, as well as CHO LON. u guys can travel by the cheapest and the most amazing vehicle: CYCLO. it's damn cheap and i promise you will definitely have a great time travelling by cyclo for a whole day at lovely city like Ho Chi Minh city.

Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Lots of touristy attractions and shopping (super cheap)!!! There are good art galleries/stores that sell excellent reproductions of famous paintings (you can even choose what you like them to paint for you), various laminated products from a 6-piece dining set (that sells for 10,000 US$ in the US) which you can get for only 2,000 US$ or small items like vases and albums. Go to Ben Tanh market to get good coffee, and other unique souvenirs.
