Thereisnohope is sorta correct in posting about lend lease. It was not really much help, however as it was to dispose of ww1 destroyers that were about to sink by themselves anyway and they weren't free.
Europe did ask for help, for 2 years. They knew it would become global and there was need to nip it in the bud. Nothing substantial came of it until Pearl Harbour, when it was in American interests to actually join the fight. It's really no different now. It's in Americas interest to go after terrorist groups that are attacking it, whereas European countries, not involved are also those not being the target of terrorist activities to that degree. American foriegn policy (or lack thereof) is largely to blame for the current predicament.

WE DIDN'T GET INVOLVED IN WWII BECAUSE WE WERE ASKED TO.
You should research this before posting.
We only became involved after WE were attacked.
There were other reasons too. Economy. Politics.
NOT because we were asked.
Thereisnohope; You're interpreting "help" a little different than I.
A loan does not compare to manpower. I didn't realize we we're asking for money and equipment aid from Europe.
So I guess I should ask the poster: What help are we asking for from the Europeans?

Kraygh is in error here. The U.S. was sending aid to England and other countries well before Pearl Harbor, the Lend Lease Act was enacted in March of 41. But you are referring to the debt countries like France owe the U.S. for fighting to save their country. I've wondered that myself. But where is the profit for anyone or any country to show gratefulness unless they are hoping for more help? Only England seems to have ever shown the U.S. any gratitude. We gave the USSR millions of dollars in aid right after Germany invaded them in 1941 and the Cold War was the result. We gave the Chinese Army help in fighting Japan. Long before we were at war with Japan. What about Germany after the war when we kept the people in Berlin from starving to death because the Russians wouldn't feed them? Well at least France gave us the Statue of Liberty. But we had to erect it ourselves.

Maybe Europe has actually learned something from the past (unlike some other Nations), i.e. that war is not the answer to every problem.....!
