there is but one thing that matters to me: to do my best and to forgive myself for what i deemed were my shortcomings.
i guess this question reminded me of my son on his deathbed-- i did my best. others said the same. but guilt keeps on gnawing on you: did you really do your best? what could you have done wrong as a mom? if he were still alive, would you have been kinder, more available, sweeter? moms have a way of feeling guilty, no matter if they already did their best. im the same. i was a kind, sweet mom but i wanted to know if i could have been kinder or sweeter.
till i woke up one day, realizing that the source of my agony is ME. i need to forgive myself for my imperfections as a mom, no matter if its only i who seemed to think that im imperfect. my son loved me to bits. to the very end. people around me kept on telling me how my son was so lucky to have such a mom.
but no words could bring him back to life. his death left behind a hurt, lonely and confused mom who keeps on wracking her brains if there was something more that she should or could have done. till this mom learned to forgive herself, and love herself as her son loved her. its then that i found peace.
its always easier for other people to forgive you. its harder to forgive yourself. when its a matter of life and death, you do your best and you let God take care of the rest. what matters is you did your best.

You're the only thing that matters to me
Say it's a lie
Tell me that it is untrue
It's something that I just don't understand
All my life I've waited for someone like you
But I let you slip through my hands
What was I thinking baby
must have lost my way
Now I'm just longing for yesterday
lalalaalalalala
great song btw

This is going to sound so cliche... but my faith in Christ is what keeps me motivated every single day.
I'd have killed myself a long time ago (yeah, I actually tried once...) if it weren't for the fact that I love God and place my trust in Him now.

TOUGH QUESTION BTW...
I think what the only thing that matters is that, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you are comfortable with what you see... with who you are and with what you've done... when you can tell that person in the mirror, "Hell yeah! I'm good!"
